Hydroelectric is an expanding industry and Champion has provided dams with generator blocks since the 1980s. We entered into hydroelectric through current customers and were able to expand thereafter. Since then, we have supplied parts all over the world including Australia, Europe and across the US. Some popular dams we supply are Hoover in Las Vegas, Shasta Dam in California, and Table Rock Power plant in Missouri. Turbine drums can take up to two days to stop completely. We are looking forward to developing our current and new relationships within the bureaus and those privately owned. Below are pictures of Hoover Dam generators, and Shasta Dam!

This month's highlight includes Hank discovering the shop and being very good at slipping past anyone who walks in. He has managed to escape 3 times in one day. If you stop by...be sure to look out for Hustling Hank.
We visited the Forest Products show in Nashville, TN this week. We had several customers in booths and met with those we could! We will be back in 2025 and showing ourselves!
Have you ever wondered how a logging company got into other industries? Well, Champion did just that by creating our own sawguide in the late 1960's. We created a sawguide that not only stays accurate for a long time, helps the blade stay true, but also has a low friction coefficient. With our sawguides, sawmills don't have to use water as the material can withstand heat better. Champion can make custom sawguides for whatever needs you may have. Below is a picture of a sawguide made out of EZ glide material.
Stay tuned next week for more friction facts. Don't forget to check out our Facebook! A fun piece of history is that Champion started up in Aberdeen, WA and in 1949 was moved down to Eugene. The reason for this move was because of the abundance of logging in the Eugene area. In the 1950s the idea of clear-cutting forests became popular which means more equipment would be needed to be the most productive. More equipment means more friction material was needed to stay on schedule. Below are two pictures, one is a picture of a large lumber mill railroad loading dock and the other is a picture of Hull Lumber Company located in Monroe, Or in 1951.
Introducing... Hank! Hank is the newest edition to the office and has been a joy between running around and snuggling in anybody's arms. In his free time, he enjoys napping, crawling up legs, pestering the other cats, and being destructive. Stay tuned next month for more Hank Highlights!
One of our most asked questions is, what do we do? The answer is not always simple, we manufacture brake lining for offroad machinery which includes friction blocks for forestry, band brakes for ag and construction, clutch discs, and gear tooth facings from electric motors to ag, we even do emergency brakes for elevators to tension reels for your fly-fishing rod.
What questions do you have? Don't forgot to check out our Facebook page for weekly updates! Until Next Time... The original friction wood block that started Champion is still being used to this day. Our modern friction block has been adapted to meet today's machinery standards. In the pictures below you can see the friction blocks are very similar. The wood block is made from Mahogany wood, laminated to obtain the necessary thickness. Our modern block is molded out of our AFT1109.
